RAISING UP URBAN MISSIONARIES THAT TRANSFORM CITIES THROUGH HIP HOP, LOVE AND JESUS.
The Urban/Hip-Hop culture needs to be transformed with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The message being heard in urban societies is one of lust, greed and pride. People are getting trapped into destructive mentalities and lifestyles due to influences of the culture. Like missionaries abroad, City Takers speak the language and have an understanding of the culture. City Takers is presenting the Gospel in culturally relevant ways. City Takers hosts a weekly hip-hop radio show on Victory 91.5 FM and hosts a monthly hip-hop service in Atlanta. The ministry also has a heart for those who are marginalized by society. Using hip-hop music as a platform, urban missionaries enter areas where people are hopeless, hurting and lost by serving on the streets and in homeless shelters, jails, prisons, youth detention centers and rehab facilities. We disciple those who serve with us and attend our events in order to be able to reach more of our city and other cities for Jesus! City Takers has weekly bible studies called “Cell Blocks: Locking In To God’s Word” as well as leadership and artist training. The ministry also hosts an urban missions conference once a year in order to equip others to become City Takers. We are teaching people how they can be in the culture but not of it and encourage them to take the church outside the building and live out the Great Commission.
HOW WE DO IT
We LOVE a city by serving and having a consistent presence in the streets, jails, shelters, and urban communities in our cities passionately bringing a message of hope to the hopeless and hurting.
We DRAW a city by aiming to capture the attention of people, drawing them through music, media and events where the Gospel is shared in a culturally relevant way.
We BUILD a city by making disciples through biblical teaching, evangelistic training and service in the city.
WHY WE DO IT
We want to reach the lost, experience revival in our cities and see more City Takers impact this generation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,[f] you were doing it to me!’ Matthew 25:37-40 37
