Love a City
We Love a City by serving and having a consistent presence in the streets, jails, shelters, and urban communities in our cities passionately bringing a message of hope to the hopeless and hurting.
We have a homeless outreach at SafeHouse every 4th Monday of the month. Join our team in loving the city by providing meals and a service for the homeless. No RSVP needed! Show up! Located at 89 Ellis St. Atlanta, GA 30303. Please arrive by 6:30pm.
Jail and Prison Outreach
Every other month we have the opportunity to love our city by visiting our friends in lock down. We go into youth detention centers, jails and prisons to share music, the Word and a smile with people many have “thrown away.” If you are interested in this kind of outreach please fill out the volunteer form.
Our huge annual sock outreach will be on October 21st in downtown Atlanta’s Hurt Park. Our goal is to give away 1,000 pairs of socks to our friends on the streets. In our time working with the homeless of our city we have identified socks as being a big need and want for those who live on the street. Improper footwear, long periods of walking and standing, and prolonged exposure to moisture lead to a number of foot diseases that cause infections which can become severe and disabling and even life-threatening. Providing new socks helps prevent and alleviate skin conditions caused by wearing one pair of socks until they deteriorate from filth and wear. We will need volunteers to go out and hand out socks with us. We are accepting donations of new socks as well as donations to purchase socks. Be the church with us and give your time and/or resources to Socktober! VIEW FLYER
Once a year during the winter season City Takers gives out blankets, jackets, sweaters, scarves, hats and socks to the homeless in downtown Atlanta. These items are collected throughout the year to be given out during the coldest time of winter. For info on how to donate items email firstname.lastname@example.org.
New Year’s Outreach
On December 31st many in Atlanta gather at the Underground to watch the “Peach Drop” similar to New York City’s ball drop. City Takers goes into this celebration with the intention of bringing light to a night that is many times filled with regrets, depression and people filling voids with drugs and alcohol. Our team engages audiences through street cyphers and shares the message of true joy and happiness from the Gospel. To participate email email@example.com.
Once a month City Takers goes to the streets of Atlanta and city parks to meet practical needs and build relationships. This looks different every time. Sometimes we hand out water, food or clothing, we play chess with people, other times we just engage people in conversation on benches. The mission is to be a consistent voice and presence of hope and encouragement. To volunteer for our street team please fill out the volunteer form.
City Takers recently went to Nairobi, Kenya in Africa August 20-30, 2014 and did outreach, street concerts, shared at youth camps and on media outlets and even a secular night club. City Takers penetrated all of Nairobi from the city downtown to the slums of Kibera using hip hop music as a tool and platform. See the Kenya Mission recap video on our Media page.
